A typical day at Shavington Primary School

The School day

The top and bottom external gates open at 8.40am, for children and parents to make their way into school. Miss Brock (Deputy Headteacher & SENCo) and a member of the Senior Leader Team (SLT) will be out each morning at the Main Road and Southbank Avenue entrances to greet families along with two other members of the Senior Leadership Team. Children will then enter through their designated doors. Teaching staff will be on their classroom doors to greet children in the morning and to see them out at the end of the day. (Year 5 and 6 staff work a rota for their main door).

Start and finish times are as follows;

The register is taken at 8:50 in the morning and 1:15 in the afternoon.

The school is open for 33 hours and 20 minutes.

All children will then enter and exit the school through their classroom door except for Years 5 and 6 who will use the downstairs door at the bottom of the stairwell.

The Key Stage 2 member of staff on duty should wait at the year 6 stairwell door with the KS2 messages book to take any minor messages that may need passing on to the relevant 5/6 teacher. All other staff will greet their children at their own class doors in the mornings.

Quick/non-confidential conversations can take place outside the classroom at drop off and pick up. An appointment should be arranged for anything more detailed or sensitive by e mailing the admin team.

Our before and after school (BASC) provision have their own entrance and exit. All children who attend breakfast club are taken through school to their classes in the morning.

In the morning, all classes are given a list of children who are attending after school club so staff can remind children and check at the end of the day.  At the end of the day, KS1 children are collected from their class, whilst KS2 children are collected from the Year 3 / 4 internal door. The BASC staff walk the children to after school club where they are registered.

Scooters & Bikes
We actively encourage our children to walk, scoot or cycle to school to reduce traffic around school and protect our environment. To support this we have a scooter / bike park (located by the sports hall) where children can leave scooters and bikes.

Keeping Hydrated All children in school are given a clear school water bottle. This is so that all out children can access water throughout the day. We have water stations throughout school which have cooled, filtered water that the children can access all through the day.  We have always supported our children to drink throughout the day and enjoy the fresh water available to them. A very small number of children struggle to drink water for various reasons. If this is the case for your child, then please send them in with a named water bottle. We advise that you use a small amount of the sugar free concentrated juice. No fizzy drinks are allowed in school. Children will then have access to both water bottles throughout the day.
