Autumn in Year 5
Our Autumn term Power Maths units are focused on: Place value within a million, the four operations and fractions.
We also use Freckle and ActiveLearnPrimary to enhance our learning in Maths. Please make sure that you log on to access some of the exciting games related to our maths units.
Through our second Autumn term, we will be understanding how narrative texts use expanded noun phrases and speech to enhance the readers experience. We will be learning how to use inverted commas and extending our vocabulary knowledge for topic specific vocabulary.
In Science, we will be looking at - Animals including humans, mainly focusing on the human lifecycle.
This term in Geography, we will be looking at North America. Using maps, discovering states, differences in climate and identifying human and physical landmarks.
In History, we are learning all about the Maya. Learning how we can use a range of sources to discover differences and similarites in lifestyle, religion, education and food.
We will be enjoying lots of different art, design and food technology this term, such as inventors in D&T and sketching techniques in art.
In French this term, we will be learning how to talk about ourselves with simple sentences and how to say school subjects.
Times Table Rockstars
Please keep practising your times tables at home to maintain fluency in them! :)
We will be using Showbie as a way to share resources and communicate. You can use this area to upload any homework you have completed for this term. Usernames and logins are the same as last year.
Our class Showbie code is: 8CCFG
Our P.E. days will be on Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. Children are asked to come dressed in their P.E. kits on those days.
In this class, we use all of our learning muscles in different ways. We work together as ants, showing one another a new strategy for learning or supporting each other. We are resilient rhinos - never giving up and making sure that we have put the most effort we can into an activity. We are resourceful beavers - using resources in and around the classroom to scaffold our learning and support us in lessons. We are reflective tortoises - we look back on achievements and accomplishments.
What went well? What did I learn? What do I need to improve on? How can I be even better than what I am already?
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. On these days we ask that your child comes to school in their PE clothes rather than their school uniform.
Weather dependant they can wear their shorts and school coloured PE T- shirt and school jumper. If the weather is cold, then track suit bottoms/leggings would be more suitable. Trainers are preferable to pumps as it is possible the children may be outdoors for some lessons.
All children have been given a school water bottle. This needs to be brought to school each day having been washed and re filled with fresh water from home. Children will be reminded at the end of the day to bring home their lunch bag and water bottle to be washed ready for the next day. We have turned off our water filter system so children will not be able to fill up their water bottle in the usual way. All classes have access to drinking water throughout the day should the children require extra water.
Outdoor shoes and coats
Please ensure your child brings a coat to school each day. We had a rainy start to the term but we are trying as much as possible to allow the children their outdoor breaks which may mean us putting coats on to go out in the rain as much as possible without getting too wet. Please ensure all coats are clearly named.
Please also ensure your child has a pair of outdoor shoes as our play area is on the school field. We will be using the field as much as possible.
