Welcome to the Summer Term in Year 1

We hope that you have had a great Easter break and are ready to start back to school to begin our new topic. We are all looking forward to beginning our final term with you all: learning new things, applying our skills to new situations and above all having lots of fun!

Our topic this term is ‘Who would work in a school like this?’ and it is going to help us understand how our school is now beginning to take shape. The new Key Stage 2 buildings are really coming on and, once the external structure has been completed, there will be work taking place - unseen by us - inside the building. Lots of different people will be involved with plastering and painting the walls, as well as putting in the plumbing and electrics. We will be thinking about the finishing touches to our new school buildings and linking this into different areas of our learning

Children should bring a freshly washed PE kit in on the first day of term and their PE kits should remain in school until half term. Our PE lessons will be on Monday and Wednesday.

Water Bottles

Every child in Year 1 has access to fresh drinking water.  Please ensure that your child has a school water bottle in school throughout the week. Your child's water bottle will be sent home every Friday so that it can be washed ready for the new week.

In year 1 reading is really important. Your child needs to have their book bag in school every day. They will change their reading book every week on a specific day. To help your child progress in this we ask that you read with your child as much as possible and that you record it in their diary.

There is a new Spring Term homework grid for the children to complete.  This grid will be sent home with the children in their home school diary and a copy of the grid will also be available on the Year 1 class page of the school website.  The children need to complete enough homework in the term to gain 12 points. There will be a homework exhibition at the end of each term so that children can share their successes with you and you can see the work completed by other classes.

All children have been set up with a username and password for the My Maths website.  A letter will be sent out at the beginning of this term.

Phonics screening test

All Year 1 children must be present in school for the week beginning Monday 11th June 2018 due to the Phonics screening test.
