Week beginning Monday 23rd January 2017

Date: 19th Jan 2017 @ 6:24pm

This week in Year One we have had so much fun and we have been very busy.  In English, we have listened to the story of the Chinese New Year and how each animal was given their year.  Once the children had listened to the story, they sequenced the story, retold the story to their friends and then created a storyboard independently.  The children produced some great pieces of work, well done Year One!

In Maths, the children finished the topic of time by using special time words such as yesterday, today, tomorrow, first, after, next and before to talk about their daily routines.  We have started looking at place value again and we have been practising counting from 0 to 100 and filling in number lines with missing numbers.

In Art and DT, we have continued to make our hot air balloons with newspaper and glue, we are focusing on making them extra strong ready to paint and decorate.  We have got crafty for the Chinese New Year too and made our very own snake puppets.  The children really enjoyed tasting a variety of Chinese snacks on Wednesday, we tasted prawn crackers, vegetable spring rolls, chicken won tons and prawn toast.  The favourite snack seemed to be the prawn crackers and the prawn toast.  After tasting, we all got together to think of adjectives to describe the food we tasted, the children used these adjectives to create Chinese menus.
